I have been involved with gundogs and shooting for about the last 35 years. Having given up hunting on horseback I then got an English Springer Spaniel and went beating. I decided this spaniel was not well enough trained so purchased a puppy which was the first dog I received a field trial award with in 1989. Since then I have run Labradors, a Flatcoated Retriever and Springers in trials.

Hi, I’m Mike Larkin, breeder, owner and trainer of double champion and multiple award winning F.T.CH Larkistyle and trainer/manager/Team Captain of the Labrador Retriever Club of Wales. Most recently I was Judge for The Save The Children Regional Gundog Championship for Wales at St Cleares, and was subsequently asked to Judge the finals at Margam Park. I am now offering personal and flexible Gundog Training to gundog owners.

I am a Scottish property manager, I have been fishing and shooting since the age of five, almost fifty years now, and I have enjoyed Labradors as shooting companions for some forty years. I began competing in Gundog Tests and Field Trials in 1985 and first qualified for the British IGL Retriever Championship in 1988 with Glenpatrick Gusto, since when my affix of Glenpatrick has been represented as an Owner/Handler or Breeder at a further nine IGL Championships. I made up my favourite Bitch, Field Trial Champion Glenpatrick Halo at Sandringham Estate, Norfolk in 2000 and Halo’s progeny – including FTChampion Glenpatrick Eve, FTCH Glenpatrick Eclipse of Craigenros and FTCH Gusty Garry – successfully continue to compete in events across several continents.

Hunde gehörten schon immer zu meiner Familie. Meinen ersten Hund, ein Cocker Spaniel, bekam ich im Alter von zehn Jahren. Danach gehörten verschiedene Rassen zu unserem Haushalt: vom Dackel bis hin zum Schäferhund. In Schottland, wo meine Familie lange Zeit lebte und ich meinen Vater oft zur Jagd begleitete, lernte ich den Retriever als Jagd- und Familienhund kennen. Schon damals war ich fasziniert von dem Arbeitseifer und der Führigkeit dieser Hunde.
